Identification
Adults can grow to 25 cm in length, rarely above. Small spiny crest on back, head with triangular shape. Coloration ranges from nearly black to mottled green with bright yellow band on flanks. Faint yellow transversal bands on back.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Asia and is endemic to Taiwan, being found throughout the island. Also occurs on nearby island of Lanyu. Lives in subtropical woodlands and forests, in hilly and montane areas.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is endemic to two islands but seems to be reasonably common in suitable habitat. It suffers from no threats at this time.
