Identification
The species usually reaches about 180 cm in length, rarely more. It has a strong back ridge making its cross body section look triangular. Body covered with wide bright yellow and black crossbands. Black head with light markings on lips.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South East Asia, from central and northern India to Indochina, south to Malaysia, Java, Sumatra and Borneo. Lives in forests, woodlands, plantations, urban gardens, often near water.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has a very large range and still remains at least locally common and can tolerate heavily degraded habitat. Often collected for trade.
