Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 1.62 m but are usually much shorter. Heavy body, broad triangular head. Coloration dark brown-grey with white-edged black blotches on back. Clear belly.

Range and habitat
The species is found in North America, in south-west USA from Central Arizona to western New Mexico. Lives in semi-arid areas with open wooded and rocky places.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN (as C. oreganus)
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has yet to be assessed on its own. It seems to remain common in its range but could be vulnerable to persecution.
