Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 1.62 m but are usually much shorter. Heavy body, broad triangular head. Coloration grey-beige with dark-edged brown round blotches on back becoming dark transversal bands near tail.

Range and habitat
The species is found in North America, from south-east Canada to most of the western half of USA and Baja California in Mexico. Lives in semi-arid areas with open wooded and rocky places.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species isn’t considered threatened. It has a very large range, occurs in protected areas and remains at least locally common.
