Identification
Adults can grow to 13 cm in length for a weight of 27.5 grams. Easily recognized by its bright golden yellow plumage with black cheek spot, bill-ring and black stripes on wings. This subspecies has brownish upper breast.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from South-east Peru to South Bolivia. The species is found in the Andes, from north-east and west Colombia to south Bolivia. Lives in humid montane forests, forest edges and clearings, from 600 to 2500 m.

Status : The species remains common in many parts of its range and occurs in protected areas. It might be locally impacted by deforestation.
