Identification
Adults can reach 25 cm in length for a weight of 103 g. Plumage almost entirely shiny black with large crest over bill and forehead. Bright yellow bill and yellow legs. Purplish tinge to wings with white patch on flight feathers.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in south-east Asia from north-east India, north Myanmar and South China to south Thailand. Introduced in Malaysia. Lives in lowlands, in open countries, including plantations and gardens in cities.

Status : The species is quite common and widespread. It often lives alongside people and adapts well to man-made habitat.
