Identification
Adults grow to 20 cm in length for a weight of 60 g. Juveniles are striated, adults are shiny and glossy blue-green with red eyes. This subspecies is darker than others, with a black-blue tinge on wings and dark green breast and belly.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from south Thailand to Malaysia and greater Sundas. Found from north-east India to south Myanmar, Central Indonesia, Philippines. Lives in lowland forest, forest edges, clearings, plantations and gardens, to 700 m.
