The species grows to 13 cm in length for a weight of 19 g. Strong body but short legs. Coloration bright green with dark markings on back and wings. Black throat, orange marks on crown and cheeks. This subspecies has turquoise belly.
Range and habitat
This subspecies is found in the Andes from Colombia through Ecuador to north Peru. Species occurs in the Andes from south Colombia to north Bolivia. Lives in humid and wet mossy forests and cloud forests, from 900 to 2000 m.

Status : The species remains fairly common, less so in the north of its range. Its habitat is secure so far but most of it remains unprotected.
