Identification
Small and compact body, round head. Male grey with brown-grey wings, grey cap, black facial mask, white eyebrow and throat. Female similar to male but grey and black replaced by brown.

Range and habitat
West coast of South America, from southwest Ecuador to Arequipa in Peru. Found in dense desert scrub near water, riparian scrub and agricultural areas with bushes, to 2500 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species isn’t considered threatened although it is scarce at the south end of its range in Peru. Very common to abundant in Isla de la Plata in Ecuador.
