Identification
The species grows up to 16 cm in length for a weight of 45 grams. Silvery bill, grey legs. Plumage is light bluish-grey with bluer wings and tail. Some subspecies have white shoulder patch others bright blue.

Range and habitat
Species found from south Mexico and Central America to central Bolivia and Brazil. Also on Tobago and islands off Panama. Lives in second growth, woodlands, plantations, parks and gardens, to 2700 m.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is widespread and abundant, probably the most abundant tanager near human settlements. Locally considered as a crop pest.
