Identification
The species can reach up to 6 cm in body length, females being bigger than males. Prominent fatty humps behind eyes, large triangular head, skin is slightly warty. Coloration is dark brown with black mottling, spotting and barring.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South-east Asia, in central and southern China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Lives in streams, pools and marshes in hilly humid forests, to 1100 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species remains locally abundant but is threatened by deforestation, capture for human consumption and building of dams.
