Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Fairly large species for its family, reaching up to 4 cm in length. Coloration is very variable, some specimens being entirely white, yellow or orange. Commonest morph is black with a large orange area on back, flanks and upper head.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Brazil and occurs south of the Amazon, from the Amazon River’s mouth south to Rio Tapajos. Lives in humid rainforests, never far from water, on leaf litter.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is considered to be at least locally abundant in its range. It is still collected for international trade but this isn’t a threat at the moment.
