Identification
The species is very large for its genus, growing to about 4 cm in length. Males have conspicuous black-tipped asperities on head, back and limbs. Back is orange-brown with two broad white bands on sides. Flanks are yellow-orange.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in coastal eastern and south-eastern Africa, from Kenya, Tanzania and Malawi to South Africa. Found in dry forests, shrublands, marshlands, woodlands and grasslands.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species can tolerate living in a broad variety of habitats and seems to remain at least locally common. It could be declining in some areas.
