Identification
Huge frog species, reaching up to 46 cm in total length for a weight up to 500 g. Males have a very large tympanum. Large head. Coloration ranges from green to olive-brown with dark blotches on flanks and back. Head often clearer.

Range and habitat
The species is native to North America, being found from south-east Canada and Nova Scotia to eastern USA, south to Florida, west to Rocky Mountains. Lives in swamps, lakes, rivers and marshes with still, shallow and warm waters.
