Notes : No subspecies known.
The species grows to 6.2 cm in length with males shorter than females. Elongated body with thick but blunt snout and smooth skin. Coloration is black on flanks and belly, bright red on upper flanks and back. Limbs often spotted.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in sub-Saharan Africa, from Senegal and Nigeria to central DR Congo and possibly South Sudan. Lives in open grassy savannahs, wooden savannahs, agricultural areas.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species isn’t currently threatened, it has a wide range and can tolerate living in a broad range of habitats. Locally caught for the trade.
