Identification
Adults can reach 90 cm in length for a weight of 1,6 kg. Fairly large head with slightly elongated but blunt snout and large mouth. Body color silvery with olive-yellow tinge. Pectoral, pelvic, anal and bottom of caudal fins dirty yellow.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the coastal areas of Indian Ocean, from Pakistan to most of India, Sri Lanka, then to north-east Indian coasts near Bangladesh. Lives in muddy, sandy and rocky bottoms, around wrecks and estuaries, to 40 m.

Status : The species is an important foodfish and the effect of overfishing need to be investigated. Population trends haven’t been established so far.
