Identification
Adults can grow to 100 cm for a weight of 9,7 kg. Large head, small ridge near eyes. Coloration silvery grey, often with reddish tinge. Light yellow eyes. Caudal fin edge black, lower margin white. Light blue dots on flanks, rarely visible.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, from south and south-east Japan to China, Vietnam and Taiwan. Lives around rocky, sandy and muddy bottoms, near reefs from 10 to 200 meters deep.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is still common but can be affected by loss of habitat (especially for juveniles living in estuaries). Subject for restocking programs.
