Identification
The species grows to 25 cm long. Adults silvery blue with dark golden yellow forehead, back and alternating blue and dark golden bands on flank, blue band on snout. Tail fin without pointed tips. Juveniles violet blue with yellow lines.

Range and habitat
The species occurs only occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from Ryukyu islands to south Australia, east to Tonga and Samoa. Lives in rubble areas in and around coral reefs, to 80 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species seems to be fairly common and widespread although no population monitoring is done. Not targeted by fisheries and not exploited.
