Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Adults can reach 35 cm. Tail fin with elongated red tips. Juveniles blue with two wide longitudinal yellow bands. Adults with blue and yellow face bands, single yellow band on flanks, dark golden-brown upper flanks, red dorsal fin.

Range and habitat
The species occurs only occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from South China Sea to Malaysia and Gilbert island, south to Timor and New Caledonia. Lives in coral reef areas, from 2 to 35 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is widespread and locally common. It is sometimes taken by fisheries and for trade but this isn’t believed to be a threat at this time.
