Identification
Adults can grow to 28 cm. Juveniles with black and white bands. Adults with white cheeks and belly, brown flanks with three longitudinal white lines. Blue line from snout to gill covert, black band on pectoral fin base. Blue edges on fins.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from Malaysia and Singapore to Solomon Islands, Philippines and eastern Caroline Islands. Lives in sandy areas near seagrass beds and coral reefs, from 2 to 30 m deep.

Status : The species is common and widespread. It isn’t targeted by most fisheries and is only occasionally collected for the trade.
