Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
The species can reach 25 cm. Juveniles have longitudinal black and yellow bands on top half of body. Adults white with brown upper half of body featuring two clear white lines and poorly-defined vertical white bars. Dusky red fin edges.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Andaman and Cocos Keeling Islands to north Australia, Vanuatu and Marshall Islands. Lives in outer lagoons and seaward coral reef flats on sandy bottom, to 20 m.

Status : The species is common and widespread. It can even be locally abundant but population trends haven’t been quantified yet.
