Identification
Lunate tail fin with long tips. Flanks grey-white with dark dots on each scales. Faint dark curved lines on back, blue and yellow bands on snout, blue spots around eye. Yellow tail with blue edge.

Range and habitat
Indo-Pacific area, from Andaman Sea to Papua New Guinea, to Ryukyu islands and north Australia. Found in sandy bottom and silty habitats near reefs, to 50 meters deep.

Status : The species is widely distributed. It is locally caught to be sold in fish markets for food but hardly ever seen in the aquarium trade. No threats known at this time.
