Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
The species grows to 25 cm. Humped back. Dark brown, clearer near back, large black dot on each flank scales, white to yellow tail peduncle and fin, broad vertical white band behind head and faint to bright horizontal band below lateral line.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka to west Indonesia and Borneo. Lives in weedy and inshore turbid areas on rubble, sandy and muddy bottoms.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is common and widespread. It is caught occasionally for food and for the pet trade but isn’t a primary target for fisheries.
