Identification
Round-shaped laterally compressed body, round forehead, small mouth and eyes. Coloration globally shiny silvery. Long dirty yellow tail, anal and dorsal fins with black edges and tips.

Range and habitat
Indo-Pacific, from Red Sea and east Africa to Marshall island, south Japan and north Australia. Found in clear seaward rocky and coral reefs, estuaries, river mouths and muddy bays.

Status : The species is caught for food and for the trade locally but not in great numbers. No significant population declines have been recorded at this time.
