Identification
Adults can reach up to 12 cm for a weight of 80 g. Strong legs and claws, eye peduncles laterally compressed. Coloration usually bright red to orange, rarely cream. White wart-like dots scattered on whole body and legs. Red antennae.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from East Africa to French Polynesia, north to south Japan, south to north Australia, mostly on islands. Lives in all kinds of coastal areas, never far from the sea.

Status : The species has a large range and can be locally abundant and tolerate habitat changes. It is still locally collected for the trade.
