Identification
Adults can reach a length up to 12 cm. Coloration usually brown, slightly violet-purple or reddish-orange while juveniles are beige. Left claw is much bigger than right claw with granulous surface, violet color with orange tip.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in western Atlantic, from south Florida to Mexico, Caribbean islands, Bermuda, Belize and northern Venezuela. Lives in coastal areas, forested areas up to 1000 m above sea level.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has a large range and can be locally abundant and tolerate habitat changes. It is still locally collected for the trade.
