Identification
Adults can grow to 21 cm in total length. Body is reddish-orange in color with bluish tail. Antennae are thin and yellow-banded with thick spiny base. Row of spines on upper flanks from cephalothorax to abdomen. Small spines over eyes.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from east Africa and Maldives to Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, north Australia and New Caledonia. Lives in muddy and sandy bottoms, from 250 to more than 500 meters deep.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has a huge range and is locally abundant. It isn’t targeted by fisheries so far (this is a project) but is locally vulnerable to by-catch.
