Identification
Adults grow up to 9 cm in length with long thin antennae, long legs and a very long upward pointing red and white rostrum. Whole body covered with red and white lines and dots. Conspicuous diagonal white line on middle flanks.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and east Africa to south China Sea, north Australia and New Caledonia. Lives in rocky and coral reefs, in caves and cavities, from 2 to 40 meters deep.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has a huge range and remains locally abundant. Caught in big numbers for the aquarium trade, sustainability hasn’t been assessed.
