Identification
The species can grow to almost 20 cm in diameter when tentacles are fully extended for a tube diameter of 7-8 cm. Tentacle coloration is often red to orange, fading to pink in captivity. Tube is made of special nematocyst cells.

Range and habitat
The species was originally described from Indonesia but it is now known to occur around North and Central American Pacific coasts. Lives in shallow rocky inshore areas.

Status : The species has a wide range and is only sporadically caught for the trade. It isn’t believed to face any threats and its status hasn’t been assessed.
