Identification
Colonies are massive and hemispherical, they can be up to 0.50 cm across. Corallites are large, up to 2.5 cm diameter with mantle very thick and fleshy. Color is blue-grey or grey-brown or cream. Oral disks have contrasting colors.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and East Africa to south Japan and New Guinea, east to French Polynesia. Lives in shallow and protected reefs, down to 15 m depth.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has a very narrow depth range and is highly vulnerable to pollution, climate change and habitat degradation all around its range.
