Identification
Large branching coral with colonies reaching heights up to 1 m. Branches can be up to 15 cm thick. Mantle is very smooth and golden yellow. Protruding slit-like mouth, usually with orange edges. Long yellowish tentacles.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Atlantic Ocean, from Ireland to Senegal. Reports from South Africa and Indian Ocean to Indonesia need confirmation. Lives on rocky bottoms in cold waters, near continental shelf’s edge, to 1000 m.

Status : This species is threatened by global warming and pollution of waters near coasts.
