Identification
Colonies can grow to 100 cm in diameter with external skeleton growing to 30 mm in diameter. Tentacles are very long, usually grey green to grey blue with a round to slightly flattened vesicle-like tip (cream, pink, green or white).

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from the Red Sea and East Africa to south Japan, north Australia, New Caledonia and Fiji. Lives in all kinds of reef areas, from near the surface to more than 60 meters deep.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is widespread and common but it is threatened by climate change and habitat destruction. Collecting for the trade is less of a threat.
