Identification
Adults can reach up to 2 meters in length. Long head, very smooth shiny and iridescent scales. Coloration is orange-red with black ocelli and lines on whole body. Head with two distinct black stripes on cheeks. Unmistakable species.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in South America, from Colombia to Guianas, south to Peru, Bolivia, north Argentina and most of Brazil. Lives in humid tropical rainforests with deep leaf litter on soil.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species has a wide range and remains locally common. Possibly threatened by deforestation and capture for trade.
