Identification
Adults will grow to around 3 meters in length, exceptionally to 5 meters. Large body and flat head with eyes placed upwards. Ground coloration yellow to beige-yellow with rows of black blotches on back and flanks. Back often darker.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America, from the Pantanal region of Bolivia and south Brazil to Uruguay, Paraguay and north Argentina. Lives in swamps, marshes and well covered banks of slow moving rivers.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is locally declining because of pollution and other disturbances to humid habitats.
