Identification
Adults can grow to about 2.10 m in length. Head is long and broad, not very distinct from body. This subspecies is much smaller (1.20 m), has white eyes and globally dark brown to nearly black color with faint clear mottling and white belly.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to central Indonesia. This subspecies is endemic to Savu island, off Timor. Lives in forested areas and woodlands.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is at least locally threatened. Subspecies savuensis is possibly near extinction because of trapping and loss of habitat.
